First, it is important to note that this ranking reflects "cost" not "value." Harrow Appi's figure includes full residential board and 24-hour care, while NLCS Kobe reflects day-school tuition. The content included differs completely, so tuition comparisons must always be viewed alongside "what is included."

Additionally, RSJ charges meals separately (day students lunch only at roughly ¥200,000 annually; full boarders three meals at approximately ¥800,000 annually), and Harrow Appi charges a refundable admission guarantee deposit of ¥440,000 (or ¥880,000 if a student visa is required). Harrow Akiu uses CAT4 (Mathematics, English, and non-verbal reasoning, 90 minutes total) and English Writing (20 minutes), as well as interviews with the Head and senior staff for admissions, with CEFR-based English proficiency benchmarks published by year level (Years 7–8: A2; Year 9: A2+–B1; Year 10: B1; Year 11: B1–B2). Harrow Akiu's first cohort of 34 students received 146 university offers from 81 institutions across 9 countries and regions (64 from QS World Ranking Top 100 institutions), while RSJ has also published results including 3 early offers from Oxford and Cambridge. NLCS Kobe has not yet produced graduates, being only in its second year.

Harrow Akiu announced in June 2026 that its 34 first-cohort students from 12 countries received a combined 146 university offers. These include UK institutions such as UCL, King's College London, and the University of Edinburgh; US institutions such as Carnegie Mellon University; Canadian universities including the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia; Asian institutions such as Tsinghua University and the University of Hong Kong; and domestic universities including Waseda, Keio, and Sophia.

RSJ has announced first-cohort graduate placements at institutions including UCL, King's College London, McGill University, the University of Edinburgh, Peking University, and Waseda University. An important note is that most published figures represent "offer numbers" rather than "number of matriculants," as individual students receive multiple offers.
