Our Approach
English Instruction Optimized for Learners, Delivering Results
Since our founding, ELT has consistently focused on "what it takes for learners to truly acquire usable English."
Grammar and vocabulary knowledge built through school education is among the best in the world. However, many learners struggle with issues like "I can read but can't speak" or "I hesitate because I'm unsure if I'm correct." At ELT, we understand these common challenges and design customized lessons for each individual.
ELT's Lesson Philosophy
Curriculum Designed Backwards from Goals
For business, exam preparation, academic advancement, or relocation preparation, we first clarify "by when and to what level do you need to be." From there, we design lesson content, homework, and learning pace.
Training to Turn "Understanding" into "Using"
Input-focused learning alone won't help you speak in actual conversations or presentations. At ELT, we practice converting knowledge into output through role-plays, discussions, summaries, and writing.
Building Confidence to Speak
Many learners worry too much about grammar and pronunciation, preventing words from coming out. At ELT, native instructors provide training that prioritizes "confidence in communication" over "perfect English." We foster a mindset where learners can actively communicate without fear of mistakes.
Long-Term Support Across Life Stages
From pre-relocation preparation to practical English during assignments, career advancement after returning home, and children's English education. Because we have watched over families in both London and Japan for so long, we can propose learning plans from a long-term perspective.
Leadership
Our Leadership
ELT is operated by coordinating efforts between the UK company and Japan company, delivering services in the optimal way while cherishing the spirit from our London founding.

Founder's Message
Reiko Suzuki
Executive Director
ELT School of English Ltd. (UK)
Biography
Originally from Gunma Prefecture, she moved to the UK in her 20s to study and work in the fashion industry at Europe's cutting edge. In the 1980s, many expatriates and their families were living in London. In response to their request for "English instruction that meets learners' needs," she founded ELT in 1984.
Being able to speak English greatly expands life's possibilities. For over 40 years, I have supported English learners. I want ELT to be a school that constantly considers "what English does this person truly need right now," rather than simply progressing through textbooks.

Biography
Graduated from Waseda University's School of Creative Science and Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, and conducted research in computational fluid dynamics at the graduate school. During graduate studies, he worked as a visiting researcher at Rice University in the USA, where he realized that "English opens up opportunities for education and career."
I want to eliminate giving up because of English. I myself had no overseas experience until university and struggled greatly with English. That's why I understand the anxiety and struggles of those in similar situations. Through ELT's lessons, I want to create a practical and efficient learning environment that helps everyone step out into the world with confidence.

Communication over perfection. Many learners have extensive knowledge of grammar and vocabulary. However, to succeed in international settings, the ability to "use it with confidence" is essential. At ELT, we design lessons so that each student's thoughts and values are properly conveyed through English.
Quality Assurance

Purpose-Specific Curriculum
We propose optimal curricula for business English, exam preparation (IELTS/TOEFL), international school preparation, boarding school preparation, and more.
