Customer Testimonials
Real voices from those who have improved their English with ELT

Masafumi Yamaguchi
Giken Seisakusho Co., Ltd.
Leveraging English Skills to Become a London Expatriate
Could you tell us about your current work?
I work at Giken Seisakusho, a construction machinery manufacturer, where I serve as section manager in the academic affairs department.
What was your initial English level?
My TOEIC score was around 300, which was disappointing. I could barely manage set phrases, and couldn't apply them flexibly. Reading and writing were very difficult too - I could barely handle emails. Later, following my company's recommendation, I attended a brick-and-mortar English conversation school in Japan and went to Cambridge University for language training, which helped raise my score to around 500, but I hit a plateau there.
How did your English improve through ELT?
After discovering ELT, I received instruction from native instructors, and my score quickly rose to around 800.
Could you share an experience where your English skills proved valuable?
I've been writing full academic papers in English and presented our construction case studies at an international geotechnical engineering conference. Fortunately, I received the Best Presentation Award in that session.
What was your impression of ELT's native instructors?
I received private lessons from three instructors at ELT. This might not be the best comparison, but instructors at budget English schools often lack foundational knowledge, so their grammar explanations aren't always logical. ELT instructors are properly trained, so they taught grammar in a very understandable way. ELT instructors frequently teach business professionals, so they accurately identified weaknesses specific to learners, which was extremely helpful.
How has your improved English changed your work?
At work, I can now do in English what I previously could only do in Japanese, so it's like doubling my capabilities. There are many people who can speak English, but few who can actually work in English while also having technical expertise, so I'm valued within my company.
Who would you recommend ELT to?
ELT instructors adapt to each student and guide them in the way they'll grow most. So personally, I think anyone with motivation will see their English skills improve steadily at ELT. On the other hand, they can also accommodate those who want to learn English casually, so I'd recommend ELT to everyone, from high-level English to everyday conversation.

Tomoko Honjo
Licensed Tour Guide / Mother of Two Daughters
Admitted to Prestigious UK School and Passed Eiken Grade 1
Could you tell us about yourself?
I went to the UK accompanying my husband's assignment when my two daughters were 8 years old, in third grade.
What led you to join ELT?
When I learned there would be entrance exams at local schools, we rushed to prepare. Japanese math is relatively advanced, so that wasn't too difficult, but English was completely lacking, so I enrolled in ELT.
What were the ELT lessons like?
Mr. Brian at ELT started from the basics and progressively raised the level. I could hear laughter during lessons, so it seemed like they were having fun.
Could you tell us about your children's school admissions?
They were admitted to South Hampstead High School, which was established as the oldest school for girls in Britain.
How was the exam preparation at ELT?
They raised the level accordingly. South Hampstead High School is very famous locally, so past exam papers and analysis of question trends are available at bookstores. They used such texts to bring students up to passing level.
What kind of students attended the school?
Many parents were affluent - we visited homes with housekeepers or swimming pools, which was surprising. Many children had parents who were accomplished in society.
Were there differences between education in Japan and the UK?
In Japanese education, you follow the teacher's instructions and get praised for doing as told, and not troubling your parents is considered important. In the UK, the school's philosophy was to think for yourself and take responsibility. I noticed the difference in education where children had more freedom to choose, but with that came responsibility.
Who would you recommend ELT to?
Those who want their children to experience authentic English. ELT instructors speak very beautiful English, so I'd recommend ELT to parents who want their children to develop habits of speaking proper English and becoming familiar with it.

Eriko Watanabe
Model / Radio Personality
Acquired English Skills for Comfortable Life Abroad
Could you tell us about your current work?
I belong to a modeling agency in Japan, and besides modeling, I work as an MC for TV shows and events, and as a radio personality.
What was your initial English level?
When I first came to the UK, shop staff often couldn't understand me on the first try. I couldn't understand what they were saying at all.
How did your English improve through ELT?
After attending ELT, I became able to understand. I could have conversations with shop staff and ask what I wanted to know.
What was your impression when you joined ELT?
When I mentioned that I wanted to be able to interview international artists in the future, they selected materials suited to me from their extensive collection and communicated my goals clearly to my assigned instructor. After lessons started, they even sent me videos of famous British MCs. I had never received this level of support at any English school before, so I felt I could really trust them. I feel it's an environment where instructors and students can work together toward goals.
What was your impression of ELT's native instructors?
When they assigned me Tom, a Cambridge graduate, his pronunciation was so beautiful. Even when I asked things I didn't understand, he explained using words that even children could understand, breaking things down simply, which made it very easy to understand.
Who would you recommend ELT to?
I think it suits everyone. Some people, like me, want to interview international artists in English. Others want better job opportunities, or want to learn everyday English for living abroad. Some parents need English because their children attend international schools. The Japanese staff truly find the best materials and create curricula for all needs, so I feel you can learn English efficiently without wasting time. I'd recommend ELT to everyone.

Passed Eiken Grade 1 in 8th Grade
My child passed Eiken Grade 1 at age 14, in 8th grade. When they joined ELT in 5th grade, they could only rely on the little romaji they had learned at school. The fact that they could grow this much in just 3.5 years is thanks to Kirsten, who gave them so much care and attention, and the ELT staff who accommodated many changes. I'm so glad we found ELT.
