Why Boarding School

Why British boarding schools are gaining popularity now

British-style full boarding schools have been opening one after another in Japan. Here's the background and why parents are paying close attention.

World-class education without going abroad

A Levels and IGCSEs are qualifications recognised by universities in over 160 countries. While based in Japan, students gain pathways to universities across the UK, US, Australia, Hong Kong, and beyond.

Growth that only full boarding can provide

A 24-hour English environment, communal living with peers from around the world, self-discipline and independence. The greatest value of boarding is personal growth that day schools simply cannot offer.

The entry barrier is lower than you might think

Many students who initially lack confidence in English grow rapidly once immersed in a boarding environment. There is no need to judge readiness solely by English proficiency at the time of enrolment.

At this event: A current student who entered a British boarding school as a founding cohort member from a public primary school in Tokyo will share how they grew from zero English ability. This is a rare opportunity to understand boarding education through first-hand experience, not generalisations.

British Curriculum

A Level & IGCSE — The British curriculum recognised worldwide

An introduction to the British curriculum that opens doors to the world's top universities through an approach fundamentally different from traditional university entrance exams.

IGCSE

Ages 14–16 (Year 10–11)

The British secondary education qualification. Students study a broad range of subjects, building a solid foundation in reading, writing, and analytical skills. It is recognised worldwide as a prerequisite for university admission.

A Level

Ages 16–18 (Year 12–13)

The advanced qualification above IGCSE. By focusing deeply on 3–4 subjects, students develop specialised expertise and can apply directly to universities in the UK, US, Australia, Hong Kong, and Japan. It is the most valued entry qualification for UK Russell Group universities.

The key difference from traditional education is subject specialisation. A Levels allow students to concentrate on 3–4 subjects to reach university-entry level, eliminating the need to prepare equally across all subjects as in comprehensive entrance exams. This educational philosophy of 'nurturing strengths' enables diverse pathways.
